Center Parcs with a baby: Tips on going to Center parcs with your newborn

We had booked a family vacation back in 2022, unaware that we would be going to Center Parcs with a baby (an 8-week-old baby to be exact!) ….this unexpected addition to our travel plans triggered a moment of panic. As a new mother, I started to feel anxious in the lead-up to the trip, spending days researching and preparing myself. Now, after experiencing the trip, I’d like to share the valuable tips and insights I gained .

If you’re a new parent heading to Center Parcs with a baby, this information might be just what you need to get ready.

1. Packing for Center Parcs with a Baby

Packing for a baby efficiently is crucial when travelling to Center Parcs with a baby. Here are some essential items that were in my packing list and some things I wished I packed!

  • Baby essentials for Center Parcs:  Lots of nappies (including swimming),  wipes, baby formula or breast pump (or just your boobs!), bottles, baby steriliser, lots of muslins, lots of clothes.

Note: I also prepared some frozen breast milk so we could bottle feed one of the nights, and I could enjoy a couple glasses of wine!

  • Sleep: Center Parcs accommodations provide travel cribs (picture below) for babies. However,  going to Center Parcs with an 8 week old baby, who has only been used to the ‘next to me’ at night, I wasn’t prepared to change my routine. So we packed our Next to me with us, and I did not regret it. It didn’t fit perfectly against the side of the bed but we put up the sides and had it next to me.
  • Getting Around – Pram AND Baby Carrier : A pram is handy for leisurely walks around Center Parcs, as the resort is pretty much designed for strollers and bikes, so you won’t have any trouble getting around in a pram. The baby carrier is also a MUST in my opinion (if your little one is big enough yet). We discovered the baby carrier to be handy for brief walks to the sports bar and incredibly convenient when boarding the train.
  • Other:
    • Baby Monitor: I hadn’t packed a baby monitor, as before the trip I was always close to my baby. In hindsight, a baby monitor could have proven quite beneficial. With a large family and visitors dropping by, managing noise became a challenge. Lacking a Moses basket in the living room, we placed our baby in our room. A portable baby monitor would have been invaluable for peace of mind, sparing me the constant trips to check on him every 5 minutes!
    • Bouncer and play matt: to help with entertaining little on when at the lodge. Having these to hand at the lodge, added a touch of familiarity and continuity to our daily routine!
  • 2. Planning Center Parcs Baby Activities

Center Parcs is designed with families in mind, and there are plenty of activities for babies.

However, when you have a new baby, I personally don’t think you need a meticulous plan. I discovered that activities such as leisurely nature walks (with a hot Starbucks in hand!), a dip in the subtropical swimming paradise, or simply relishing a lakeside picnic (weather permitting, of course) was perfect.

My suggestion is to maintain flexibility in your schedule to cater to both your baby’s needs and your own. Caring for a newborn can be exhausting, so it’s essential to prioritise self-care. Why not capitalise on your baby’s lack of a strict bedtime and seize the opportunity for a date night at Center Parcs with your partner or friends?

  • Long walks

Long walks at Center Parcs, in my opinion, is the number 1 activity to do Center Parcs with your baby. Walks often have paved or well-maintained trails that accommodate prams, making it convenient for you to enjoy walks. Not only is it a great physical exercise for you; they are a sensory journey for you baby. The changing scenery, coupled with the soothing ambiance, provides a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

  • Subtropical Swimming Paradise with your baby

Longleat has a subtropical swimming paradise, a favourite among families. The center parcs pool apparently it is heated 29.5c all year round,

When swimming with a newborn, anticipate a short 10 to 15-minute pool session due to their sensitivity to cold. Plan ahead for changing by either using the changing rooms or, as I chose, quickly changing on available chairs. Hand your baby to a family member for cuddles while you organise. This proactive approach avoids last-minute panic. Once dressed, relax on chairs or in a cabana, enjoying watching your family swim with your snug and content baby in your arms.

  • Date Night at Center Parcs with a baby

Now is an ideal time to bring your baby along to your date night, hopefully they sleep peacefully through the experience! If not, rest assured—there are plenty of other families with kids out in the evening, so you won’t stand out.

While the idea of a romantic evening might seem challenging with a little one in tow, the resort’s family-friendly atmosphere and thoughtful amenities make it an entirely feasible night with your newborn. Center Parcs Longleat has a variety of bars and restaurants within the village (with private feeding rooms if you wanted). However, please note that specific venues and offerings can change, so it’s recommended to check with the resort directly for the most up-to-date information.

  • Foresters’ Inn:
    • Located in the Plaza area, Foresters’ Inn is a popular choice for drinks and casual dining. It offers a relaxed atmosphere and a selection of beverages.
  • The Pancake House:
    • While known for its delicious pancakes, The Pancake House may also offer a selection of drinks. It’s a family-friendly venue with a cosy ambiance.
  • The Sports Café:
    • For those looking to catch a game or enjoy a sports-themed atmosphere, The Sports Café is a good option. It typically has a range of drinks and pub-style food. (I would recommend checking if any major sport is on before going, as it can get a little loud for a newborn)
  • Montana’s:
    • Montana’s is a restaurant and bar that offers a variety of drinks and a more formal dining experience. It’s a great place for a relaxed evening.
  • Rajinda Pradesh:
    • If you’re in the mood for Indian cuisine, Rajinda Pradesh, while primarily a restaurant, may offer some drink options to complement your meal.
  • Starbucks:
    • For those who prefer coffee or a light refreshment, there’s often a Starbucks in the village where you can grab your favourite coffee or tea
